There was some talk a few weeks ago about terrariums and vivariums and I think it was poison arrow frogs?

I'm just curious, how many people out there are using foggers in a terrarium type setting? Steve, you said you had used foggers, am I right?

Thinking about getting back into using a fogger on some of my orchids. It worked AWESOME for growing some of the more demanding plants, just got mad at having to replace a $100 fogger evry 3-4 months because it inexplicably stopped fogging. But, I found a place in town that is selling them for $50 (Pisces, of all places ... ?!), and, it's kind of rekindled my interest in trying to do something creative with those things.

Would be interested in seeing some pictures of setups (vivariums, terrariums, ... ?) of fellow Canreefers. Any out there?

um Steve as in me? I was looking into them but you mention going through one every 3 or 4 months.. but I think if you used RO water they should be a lot better

As for the 3 or 4 months, well I do intend to go exclusively RO this time around, so I'm hoping for some better performance. I would expect any mechanical device to experience wear and tear and thus have a finite lifespan, but I don't know what's a reasonable expectation for these kinds of things in terms of run hours. Do you think RO would be enough or should a person go RO/DI? (I don't have the DI part myself.. I suppose I could start saving up and change that eventually .... arrrgh! So .. many .. things ... to save up for ... so little patience... )

um, I don't know if there is a mechanical part.. the ones I was looking at wer "Ultrasonic" so it wused sound waves to fog the water.. but ya that is somehting to look into.. I this RO would be good enuf, DI gets a little expensive to make fog with :D

Not "mechanical" in terms of moving gears and such ... but in terms of "something somebody built to fulfill a working purpose."

Is DI expensive? I wouldn't know.

Speaking of foggers, I have one and planned to use it in a little water fountain/waterfall feature in my apt. However, I haven't found a fountain yet but I did buy a Seliger mini-diffuser. Mine comes with a spare ceramic membrane which is suppose to be replaced whenever the diffuser stops producing mist. I assume this could be every 3-4 months. Maybe you should buy a fogger with replacement membranes?

I am currently using it in a plastic witch's cauldron as a Halloween decoration for the office.

Oh, I think I got mine for $50 on sale this summer at Art Knapps downtown.

I have used the foggers alot and they always crap out. For good reliable fog I use a modified humidifier. And if you are going to use a fogger with frogs, cover it as it can hurt the frogs, also dont use RO water for frogs as it will osmos through their skin too much!!!!! they will retain too much water and get sick and die. I recommend spring water, bought is good but I get it from a local spring out in the boonies.
