Fission Nano-Skimmer Protein Skimmer

I wonder if any of you guys have any experience with the Fission Nano-Skimmer Protein Skimmer. Im just curious to hear what you guys think about this product. It is designed for a small tank (nano) and I thought that if I needed a skimmer in the future I could buy this one.

cheers:biggrin:

Ask Samw, I think he bought one and found it useless.

I tried one as well,it was not very good, I mean it worked a bit. So if very little is better than nothing go for it, but i wouldn't waste your money

So what type of skimmer would you guys recommend for a nano. (14g) I do not think that I will buy one right now but I would like to know which would be a good nano skimmer in case I needed one.

cheers

Yeah, the Fission didn't work well for me.

There are other options, Sapphire and AquaC Nano (though I haven't tried them since I no longer keep a nano).

I think for a nano frequent water changes are more helpful than a skimmer would be....

How well do the Fission nano-skimmers works?
Hmmm, to put it lightly - CRAP - I have one the only this it managed to pull out of my tank was about 10 gallons of water adn dump it all over the floor while I was at work.
The thing requires way to much tunning and is way to finicky to be of much use. I even had a coralife super skimmer dialed in and workig great as a HOB skimmer - no problems to tune the coralife, but for the life of me I could not get those fission to work well or consistently.

If you are looking for nano skimmers. There is also a new one from Rio. Stay tuned I just hooked it up on my 10 gallon. Want to see how it compares to my remora aqua c (not the nano remora, been thinking of that one tho). Best thing about the Rio nano skimmer, price.
It is only $30 bucks - canadian.

Where did you get the Rio? I've been looking for one but maybe now I'll just wait and let you test it out for me. :)

Well I just set it up last nite so waiting for the break in period to end. Mind you its already foaming fairly nicely after only 12 hours.
So far my only complaint was that it came coated in some oily substance and I had to spent fve minutes washing it off in hot water. Now the instructions said one shoudl wash it in a mild detergent and then rinse it really well. Personally, I don't like using detergents anywhere near my tanks so I just used really hot water and some elbow grease to get the film off.

Stay tuned over the week for updates on this skimmer. I will be starting a thread in the product section to continue this review, look for further installments there.
