filter socks
 

I was wondering where to find filter socks like this.Attachment 752
I seen these on pics of Medican's tank.
Or is there a certain type of filter bag? It is for a supply line that is 1 1/2 ".
Right now I am using foam and zip ties, what a hassle.

There is a filter supply store in Edmonton. "Process Services" They can get any type of filtersock and they are fairly cheap.

I got mine from Gerrygab on canreef.

You will need to decide on what micron size you want to use. I currently use 200 micron and I swap out mine once every 4-5 days. To clean them I wash them in my washing machine with 1/2 cup of bleach then I run them through the rinse cycle 2-3 more times.

I got mine from FilterBag (here's a link). You have to get 25 at a time but I paid $55 U.S. for 25 of them including freight. I change mine every 3-4 days and just take the dirty filter and put it in a bucket of bleach/water for a couple of days. Then it rinses out pure white. Just leave it to dry and it's good to go. I have about 12 going in a cycle and only use 2 at a time so they get a good couple of weeks to dry before being reused.

All you need to do is throw them into the hot cycle with some baking soda or washing soda and your good, no extra rinsing needed. They come out nice and white and can be used right away.

Sorry to highjack this thread but has your (all reefers) filter sock do a better job at skimming than your skimmers? It is alway dark green.:redface: :confused:

My skimmer is WAY, WAY under powered for my tank.:sad::splat:

I have socks on the overflow drains and use a skimmer.

Same as I. The overflow drain in the sock seem to do all or most of the frothing inside the sock, which leaves little for the skimmer to pick out, I guess.:redface:
