Is he in his own tank?

Skimmer Juice 10-16-2006 07:08 PM

I can't say I have seen one of those. Definatly a cool fish. Nice pics!

Thanks!

Yeah hes in his own tank, QT right now until I get my "deepwater" coral tank setup with gorgonians and sponges, which will be his new home. I was going to add him to the lionfish tank until I learned he can easily try to eat lionfish his own size (which would kill him of course). They arent the smartest of fish!

That is so cool.

How is feeding like for a guy like that? Will they only take live foods or can you train them onto prepared offerings like mysis, shrimp or cut pieces of filets or something?

Diana 10-16-2006 09:00 PM

He is my easiest fish to feed, since they are luckily (and unluckily, depending on how you look at it) very opportunistic feeders. He was already trained on frozen silversides when we got him about a month and a half ago. At that point though, you had to wave the head of the silverside infront of his face to get him to go for it. Now, I just throw a couple in the tank and he gobbles them up (as long as they are floating in the current). He will eat full size ones but I like to break them in half just so they fit in his belly a bit better... hehehe. Also, he will eat the tail-end of the silverside now, as opposed to needing to see the eyes.

He's a very cool fish.... and is a great addition to our growing collection of "oddballs" (including a Pinnatus Batfish we aquired over the weekend, which is just today eating frozen brine. Updates are soon to come once we are sure the batfish is going to make it).
