Zoanthid growth
 

Hey.

Im just wondering is there anything one can do to promote zoo growth? All my zoos are the smaller head species and from what I've read they either take nutrients out of the water or photosynthesize so I guess I cant really feed them manually, or am I wrong? Also will zoo's attack each other chemically or are they compatible with each other. Thanks in advance

I've fed mine cyclopeeze with a turkey baster before, they get covered in red dots, close up and open back up an hour or so later.
I'm not 100% on them not attacking others, but I've seen a ton of pics of zoos of all different colours on the same rock right next to each other, so I would have to assume that most are ok together.

They won't attack each other, but the vigorous ones will overgrow and push out the weaker ones so I wouldn't place them too close together :biggrin:

I don't know how small a smaller species is, but I've been placing a small mysis shrimp on each of my zoo polyps every second day, holding it there until they close around it. The ones that take the shrimp, split off almost the next day. I noticed a big difference.

Do you guys think brine shrimp will be too big for them to eat? It seems for some reason my zoos are not interested in food at all. Would krill be a good food for them as well?

Brine should work at least well enough to know if they will take food.Maybe too big for some Zoas but if they close over it,then you should start feeding them.Small stuff I think is best.Rotifers,cyclop something like that.I have about a dozen different zoas and only 1 type will eat when I target feed.

I know that Reef Roids work wonders when spot fed to zoos. It not only promotes faster growth but also splitting of the polyps. A fellow I know from Regina has a massive colony of zoo's the size of toonies and all he has been doing is spot feeding with Reef Roids.

The best thing to promote zoo growth is to wait a few months.

Oh sure, they're cute now, but wait until they're taking over your live rock and climbing up the tank walls... then you'll be asking, "How do I slow these things down??" :biggrin:

Seriously, with good tank conditions they will spread like, well, colonial polyps.

Also do you guys think any additives should be added to the water. I know from most stores I've talked to and other coral growers most people say they dont add anything especially with zoo's. A few of them told me they only add aragamilk once in a while. What do you all think? Would additives make zoos grow faster?
