Special thanks Goes out to Steve AKA SPHELPS, from Saskatoon SK. After posting my grief on canreef about selling my skimmer Steve piped up and told me QUOTE " instead of getting rid of your pride and joy do a Recirculating mod to it. then said I do them. SO i got on the phone to talk to Steve, within 10 mins of talking I was convinced in getting it done with in 30 hours the skimmer was on the bus to head for Saskatoon for a complete overhaul.

So thanks again Steve for the great piece of kit that i have coming on the bus. will have pictures of the beast firing up once i get it tomorrow after work. may have to take the afternoon off to rig it together...

Do you have an update on this mod and how it's working?

Skimmerking 11-12-2006 02:21 AM

Oops sorry about that i never thought about it. just to let you know the skimmer use to run in the sump and I would have to clean the skimmer every 2-3 days to keep it skimming good and not allowing the the gunk to build up. I couldnt keep a wet foam and when i did it would over flow..

No with the updated conversion to a external skimmer. I am very pleased to have a wetter foam and i have clan the skimmer 2 in 40 days and only because I was bored. The chamber stays pretty wet so that chamber isnt dirty at all..

I'm so glad that I had this done. With that being said I can have a smaller sump and not require a huge sump. SO what did I do went out and got a 75 gal sump to make a refugium/ sump out of it. I can't speak.

SO if you have a skimmer and want to go external go for it. its worth the extra to convert it over. IT cost me around 100 dollars to convert. if that.

good luck.
