Gen-X Mak 4
This pump has really impressed me so far. It is quiet, handles pressure and provides substantial flow. They run relatively cool as well. I can't tell you long term how it'll be but so far so good.

I have the mak 4 and i think it is very good.and will buy more when i set up my 200gal.

Ok I am concidering this pump. has anyone used it on a becket skimmer? also are the threads on the intake and discharge external or internal? and what are you overall thoughts over the long haul>
Steve |
Steve, the threads are external - have'nt tried mine on any skimmers yet, but been thinking of putting it on a AquaC style skimmer - great pump.

I run my 4 feet foamer becket with one http://zapzap.zwf.net/albums/Album-de-stephane/aej.jpg
also have another one to connect my 130 reef to my garage 8 foot below + 12 foot orizontal so a total of 20 foot hose and still have incredible flow they draw only 1 amps or 110watt!!! and for 200$$$$$ This pump is the best your money can buy IMO I have compare it to a mag18,5MD litle giant,GX8500 on my skimmer an none of them is able to beat this pump |
thanks Stephane, just what I wanted to see/hear. I think I just ordered 2 of them I am waiting for a confermation
how loud are they Stephane? Steve |
I run one on my Beckett skimmer also and it works great. It's very quiet too. I can't hear it outside of my cabinet.
|
Steve, they are the best pumps for beckett skimmers.
Stephane, that is a dark looking collection cup  I've heard Mak 4's and they aren't super noisey, less than LG 4MD's. |
I have one. It's not completely whisper-silent but it's the quietest pump that I'm currently running. Enclosed into a stand I can't really hear it at all (one caveat: I have a LOT of ambient noise in my basement).
I knew I was impressed with that pump but after seeing Stephane's 4' beckett skimmer now I am REALLY impressed. Hey Stephane what diameter is that, is that 8"? |
Well, after a lenghty look at the MAK and the velocity, I decided to go with the MAK 4's for two reasons; less heat and they are pressure rated. hopefully they will be here tomorrow or Sunday, as I also ordered bulkheads and I need to figure out what hole size they need so I can order the euro bracing for my tank..
