its a 55g cylinder tank i was asking if the 400w mh was to much for the tank

Again, depends on what you want to keep. SPS and clams would like that light, most other stuff, not so much. And heat might be a concern, depending on your hood style. I have 2 400w on my 75g, so you would be ok, depending on what you want to keep.
