 Aquarium in baby's room?

I'm having a baby in May and the room we'll be using for him already has a 20 gallon tank in it. I was going to leave it in there since I thought it would be calming to the baby. However someone recently mentioned to me that it is very unhealthy to have an aquarium in a baby's room. Do any of you know anything about this or know where I could look for some details on it? Thanks a bunch.

I have four chidren , all now away from home :) :) and have always had aquariums. I would err on the side of caution and move the tank.
There could be humidity concerns and I would certainly not have chemicals ,C02 or smelly skimmers in the room. The baby comes first :) :) Best wishes for your forthcoming event. Is this number one ? .............Dave. |

My daughter was born in Aug and has had a 20 gal FW tank in her room since she was born. At 7 months old she will wake up and watch it for hours. The tank also helps with the humidity for the room, babys like it warm and moist. I have a hard time believing that anything would escape the tank, along with the evaporation so I don't know what the concern could be!

The only concern I'd have is possible glare from lights. I didn't really notice this on my tank until one day when I knelt down beside my 2 year-old looking up at the tank. The glare from the T5s from this position was quite noticeable such that I almost had to squint. If you have MH the glare would even be worse. Take a look from where the baby's head would be in the crib towards the tank and see if the lighting is of any concern.
