What size tank?
 

Okay, I have one of those new houses with the stairs to the basement that wind down. What is the maximum sized tank that people have gotten down stair cases like this. I would like 6' but I really dont think it will fit. Has anyone had any experience with larger tanks and stair cases like this. My only other options are to buy a new house or have it built in my basement. Both of which cost quite a bit. :)

Any ideas?

buy the glass an assemble it in the room :)

I just dont know if I trust myself with 250-300 gallons of water let alone all the livestock.

See if you can find a big box (freezer, fridge etc) and try taking that down to see if it will fit, or build a frame outta 2X2's and test fit that then you can modify to dimensions you want then get it built :mrgreen:

And think about getting an acrylic tank as glass is damn heavy! Also think about different shapes. A cube might be easier to get down there than a standard rectangle.

I have an allglass 180G 72x24x24 that I had delivered to the basement. It took 4 very strong men to get it down into the basement and they were exhausted when finished. They carried it on end step by step. They decided to do it upright, their second choice was to take a window out and slide it in through the hole. This would have made them take some of the siding off the outside of the house to enable them to take the window out.

I like the idea that murray had,costs a couple of bucks for 2x2's and saves alot of heart ache later when you get the tank home and realise it won't fit.

I'm having a 72x30x30 delivered before the stairs are installed. Hopefully I have a slab to put the tank on :S

if you have basement windows that dont have a window well you can typically fit a 4 foot wide sheet of dry wall through them so u could in theory build a tank 4'x8' if u had that style of basement window. only problem is u would need about 8 guys for a peice of glass that big 4 outside and 4 in.
