Kalkwasser

I have access to Calcium Hydroxide, he also called it Hydrated Lime. The spec's where as follows:

Calcium Hydroxide 73.8%
Silica Oxide 0.9%
Magnesium Oxide 0.7%
Sulphur Oxide 0.4%
Co2 24.0%
Lab Grade

so can anyone tell me is this the same as Kalkwasser and is it going to be safe to use in my Reef Tank?
Any information would be great

Well it says lab grade,I believe Randy Holmes-Farley says in his article to use Food grade or Lab grade.I'll look for the first article he wrote about it and post a link if I can find it.

I couldn't find the article where he talks about Calcium Hydroxide, but this is what he says about Calcium Cloride.

"Any FCC (food), USP (pharmaceutical) or BP (pharmaceutical) grades of calcium chloride should be suitable."-Randy Holmes-Farley.

I would think the standards would be the same for both.

FCC and USP are 95-100% pure Ca(OH)2 whereas your stuff is only 73%..I wouldn't do it.

CrazyFish 02-16-2006 04:53 AM

Well Im confused, a FELLOW on ReefCentral says its the real deal and to use it. I'm still not convinced. Help lol
