Heaters - Watts per gallon
 

For those with larger tanks, how many watts per gallon of heating do you have? What brand of heater(s) do you use?

I have a 250w Ebo Jaeger (old style) on my 90G tank. I had one of the newer models stick and for a time I used 2 of the 150w ebos but then I needed them for my water changes so I went back to an older model 250w one. BTW, the difference between the new and old model is the temperature dial. The older ones had a recessed dial while the newer ones have a twistable ring.

I have 2 150Watt heaters.....one is a hagen and the other is a ebowjager

I use them with 150Gal net volume!

when I used to be running 165gallons, i had 2 150watt ebo's... currently on my 90 i have 1 150watt marineland, and a second one to add when i find a sump

I like to have 2 so that if one burns out, they other will pick up the slack

So far people are running 2 to 2.5w per gallon. I am just wondering because I need to figure out how many watts I need to add with the larger sump I am adding.

I'm using two 250w Won Titanium heaters on my 130g reef tank (165 total gallons), and a single 350w Won Titanium on my 50g FOWLR (65 total gallons).

use for my 205 gal system is 300 watter forget the name. But i have mt tank in the furance room so the heater is used somewhat.....

I think i'm going to change to the metal ones the Titanium ones wit the remote pack with it ...

I use about 3-4 watts per gal, and always use two smaller heaters instead of one big one. Have read too many horror stories of one big heater getting stuck in the "on" position and the entire tank overheats, and well, you know what happens then :(

Hagen heaters are pretty much the ones I use. They all have heater guards on them as well.

Using two wont be a problem. At 3w/g I need 4, 250w heaters for my expansion projects.

I'm using two 500W titanium heaters TSH-500 from Jehmco http://www.jehmco.com/PRODUCTS_/HARD...s/heaters.html
with their industrial controller ETC-1R on a 220 with 120g sump. The sump is on the basement floor.

I've tried Visitherm and Ebo and wasn't too sure about Won, I read some good things about these and the price was about the same as a couple of big Ebo's from a LFS. The heaters do not have thermostats (that could stick) so they have to plug into a controller. The temp in the tank stays within 1 degree.
