Fraging

how can you frag zoo's or polyps?

Kabong 12-21-2005 05:08 AM

The fast and easy wasy is to use a flat head screwdriver and a hammer
Just chip off a piece of the rock that there attached too.

deep6er 12-21-2005 05:23 AM

what if the polyp is peling off the rock can you rip a peice off and elasitc it on to a different rock?

mr_alberta 12-21-2005 05:25 AM

I think people tend to use crazy glue for polyps. Also, you may consider wearing latex gloves as some zoanthids are quite toxic.

I cut them off the LR and try to get a little bit of the rock with it then glue it to the new peice.
And yes use gloves and safety glasses.

toxic..... really what can they do?

Willow 12-21-2005 06:06 AM

Quote:

Zoanthids contain the highly toxic substance palytoxin. Palytoxin is the most toxic organic substance in the world, but there is an ongoing debate over the concentration of this toxin in these animals. However, even in small quantities, the toxin can be fatal should it be ingested or enter the blood stream. There is no known anti-toxin.

When propagating any type of Zoanthid in home aquaria, it is advisible to have a dedicated workstation and to thoroughly clean all equipment used, especially if any of the polyps should break open. These chemicals are the only thing that Zoanthids have to protect themselves from would be predators.

super glue and reef rubble work well for fragging zoos.

deep6er 12-21-2005 06:15 AM

seashells 12-21-2005 07:23 AM

toxic ???

Don't wish to scare you but do take proper precautions when fragging. Just follow this link http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=158663. Demonstrates how careful we should be.
