advice on return pump

Hi all, just making my wishlist for my J&L order and I am stumped as to what pump I should purchase for a return pump. I am using a Overflow (U tube) hokey I know...but a plumber I'm not. I have a 90g w/25 sump.

I would like to increase the flow from my sump and there are so many to choose from, I don't have a clue.

Any insight is appreciated.

Are you looking for submersible or inline?

I personally like the Poisiden pumps if you can deal with the heat they add to the tank. A Gen-X Mak 4 is also a nice pressure rated pump and is relatively quiet.

I am also very happy with my Posiedon pump (however you spell it). Very quiet. It would be an external pump fyi

Thx for the replies, what type (1-2 degrees??) of heat issues are we talking with the poseidon. I was looking at the MAK4 but now I have 2 votes for the poseidon...hmmm

Which do you think is quieter??

Thx again

The poseiden is definately a quieter pump.
As far as how much heat it will add... it would depend on the water volume of your system.

I had a T4, you could only tell it was on by touching it.

Now that sounds like my kinda pump. I have made my decision.... my thanks to you all.

I will add a couple degrees to a 75G tank...more with smaller tanks obviously.

What about Eheim submersible pumps? Are they quiet too?

I have a 70gal that I'm looking for a new return pump for as well. I figure a submersible pump would be less hassle (dont have to prime), and one less external device to worry about...?
