replacing glass

How hard is it to change a pane of glass on a tank. It is 1/2 inch glass and I would like to change the front panel as it is scratched up. I have read that it is very difficult but why? I'm not concerned about the bracing around the tank as I would probably just break it off and make new stuff. Any input or first hand experience appreciated.

1/2" stuff is expensive...just warning ya  .

Its not that hard really. The hardest part is cleaning up the glass and getting it ready for new silicone. Just have a lot of fresh razor blades on hand and a lot of patience.

How expensive is it?

Last I checked, a 24x24 peice was about $70. This is with no edge work done either (just sanded so it wasn't sharp).

so a 60x24 would be about 120-140? That's not too bad. Is there any places in edmonton that repair scratches?

if ur gonna sepnd that mush just for one pane u might as well buy a new tank for like 50 more and use that one as a sump

I don't know of any places that sell 108 gal tanks for 200 bucks.
