Are you using a Kalk reactor? If so, then I would stop using that for now. Waterchanges will also help.
Cross referencing with another test kit can also tell you if the kit you are currently using is wonky. |
Some articles that will be of help...
The Relationship Between Alkalinity and pH: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/may2002/chem.htm Solving Calcium and Alkalinity Problems: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/nov2002/chem.htm High pH: Causes and Cures: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-03/rhf/index.htm Low pH: Causes and Cures: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-09/rhf/index.htm |
Where there is chemistry questions, Beverly will soon follow...
I had the same issue a year or so ago.... and when I calibrated and checked against a pH pen, I found the monitor to be out by 0.5 so I was actually running at 7.95 not 8.45... Now I calibrate once a month or so and concentrate on alk and ca levels... keeping those parameters in line will usually keep pH around 8.2 - 8.4 unless you have too much c02 in the system... |
