Awesome wicked thread on RC for rotating sprinkler heads

Looks like I've got a new project for the tank when Cracker is finally done building it:

Anyway, if you read through the thread, there ARE small metal parts in the head that can't be removed, but then again, Magdrive pumps have metal screws that rust in tanks and no one seems to give a damn.

wow..pretty cool

Yeah, I know! I'm gonna go buy four of them and a Mag18 tommorow.

Me too. I've got 2 Mag 36's, one for return and one for a closed loop. I'v already bought two 1" sea swirls so I'll use these for the rest of the returns. Wicked idea. I wonder if they're fully submersible for behind rock work?

I think i will try that when i set up my big system this winter.

Anybody try this out yet? I'm wanting to run 4 of the Saturn Orbit III's off a Mag 36 and I'm wondering if it will even work and if it will then how fast will they rotate?

albert_dao 09-30-2005 03:41 AM

Well, I have all the parts, I just haven't gotten around to setting up my new tank yet. I'll post pics and stuff when it's all done.

Jaws 09-30-2005 03:34 PM

Looking forward to seeing it in action. How far away are you from setting it up?

Hi,

I have tried this idea 3 years ago, they work in their special way. It works as long as you have a pressure pump (it barely moved with Mag5 with 0 head). They fail just like SCWDs - the little gears get clogged with calcium over time. Their spray pattern is very sharp and fine - kinda like a 3/8 inch sealswirl. Otherwise, they aren't bad for $10.
