Adjustable aircraft cable suspension for lighting fixture

I need to hang a light fixture from the ceiling but I want it to be adjustable.

I want to make something like this:

But really anything would suffice, as long as it's adjustable. Any ideas? Also what is recommended for attaching the cable to? I only know of screws with eyelets, but I need something more secure...

The Coralife Aqualight Pro/Plus suspension kit is fully adjustable.

I didnt like the hanging wires that came with my Hamilton MH so I modified it to accept the Coralife system.
I like it, very easy to adjust, and looks good to.

Can you actually purchase the hanging hardware ? Can it be purhased locally?

I'd like to hear some options as to how to hang the pendant, as I am going to be doing the same thing soon and haven't given this much thought

The wire you can pick up any where, but an adjustable doodad is going to be really tough to find.

Called around and found that nobody really carries the adjustable cable kits (basically a ceiling plate, retracting cable and wire gripper). The closest I found was a rigid ceiling mount kit, but it was not adjustable. I went with plant hangers (my fixtures are pretty light) and wire rope clips to make my own adjustable system. Does what it's supposed to, but not as convenient as a wire gripper/retractable cable.

If you are suspending your fixture from a single wire, make sure that it doesn't sway/rotate when there is any air movement caused by fans, open windows, etc. You might have to account for the weight of the power cord causing imbalance. (These may not be an issue for you provided it has enough weight)

To reduce the effects of this, hang using a yoke and thread the power cable through the ceiling hook or attach it to the wall to act as support.

There are alot of ways to do this. Check the hardware section at RONA for clips, hooks, saddles, pullies etc. If you don't see anything there, go to EECOL electric and see their suspension hardware.

I saw a thread on reef central a couple of days ago about the same thing. The guy wanted to be able to adjust the pendant for cleaning etc. He found Sunlift adjustable hangers at a hydroponic store (in the US) and they work on tension I believe. Wherever you position the pendant it stays - move it up it stays up, move it back down and it stays. They attach to the hook on the ceiling and then the wire would attach to them. I haven't been able to find these locally yet. If you do a search on yahoo under Sunlift adjustable hangers you can see what they look like.

Arcadia lighting sells the cable kits. I have it on my Arcadia hood. It looks nice, but for convienience it really doesn't work that well.
