urgent silicone question

Hi all,

I would like to reinforce my 72gal bow with silicone, however it has BLACK silicone.

I went to Canadian Tire, Rona, HD, etc, and they all have the SiliconeII in black, but nothing else. The stuff that says "aquarium safe" comes only in clear and white!!!

I have read mixed reviews about SiliconeII (even the window and door siliconeII which is 100% silicone with no mildew preventatives), and I just wanted to know what you all suggest???

Should I just bite the bullet and go to the pet-store to get a $14 tube from King-Ed, or is there another solution?

Thanks in advance.

Fresh.

Do not use silicone II.

Its not so much the anti mildews your worried about with that stuff, its the continuous submersion that it cant stand up to.

Ive tried it...it doesnt hold up.

GE makes the one you need, its RV 1100 i believe.

Use GE Silicon I, the GE Silicon II stuff says "NOT FOR AQUARIUMS!" right on the back. GE Silicon I doesnt say aquarium safe but thats what most people use and I've used it myself. It also only comes in clear and white.

Then I can't use it!!! I need a black product!!! I have black silicone on my tank and I just need to reinforce, not tear down and rebuild!!!

Any other ideas?

thanks
Fresh.

Guess you will have to breakdown and buy some expensive stuff.

I'm pretty sure the GE RVC1100 (or whatever it's called, I can never remember exactly) that I used when I was building some overflows on some of my tanks, is black.

LOL

If $5.95 is the "expensive stuff" you are all in the wrong hobby

Mitch... the 5.95 stuff is extremely small, and to resilicone a 72 gal tank, we are talking about a lot of 5.95's!!!

Yes I get the idea, since I started with my addiction in the 70's I've flushed at least enough down the drain to put one of my three kids through university
