TDS Readings...

I finally got a TDS meter to check the water coming out of my RO/DI.

The meter came pre-calibrated, so I haven't recalibrated it yet....and I got readings of 17 on my tap water, and zero on my RO/DI water.

Is this absurd? Or do we have really clean water here is Coquitlam? Or is the TDS meter clearly not calibrated?

i got 12 outta the tap and 1 outta ro/di ( best reading i've gotten) new filters and tds meter caliberated.

yeah I get about 17 - 24 in surrey..

And yes, we have some of the cleanest water in Canada, so its not so absurb..

I have calibration fluid if anyone needs it..

Guys on ReefCentral can't believe how good our water quality is here, some folks in the states measure 200-400ppm.

Thanks all! I feel better.

Just because TDS is low doesn't nessasarly mean the water is good, for instants, we have higher phosphate levels in our water and that isn't measured by TDS. also for the lower mainland and Island we have a over abundance of algae to clog our filters up faster.

Isn't PO4 included in TDS readings?

No, I don't believe so.

Ourfishies 08-19-2010 01:29 AM

does that mean you don't have to buy a RO/DI filter if the water is so clean?

I wouldn't go that far, yes your TDS is low, but as stated above your PO4 is high and you don't want to be putting that in if you can avoid it.
