CLams, Clams, Clams

Question for those who have Clams. Can Clams be kept on the sand bed or do they need to be situated on rocks. I've heard/seen different answers to this question.

sure you can keep clams on the sand...if your lighting is strong enough. FWIW derasas and squamosas, gigas, hippo clams are naturally found on the sand bed. and these should be kept on the sand as their byssal gland is not as stong as maximas and croceas, so when they get big and heavy they will not be able to support them selves well if on rockwork, which can lead to damage.

maximas and croceas can be put on rockwork and look cool in a piece of live rock, but with the appropriate lighting you can keep them on the sand, plus then you can look at them from the top easier.
