Photography Q's

Okay, I just bought a digital camera and I've taken a few pics of our garden, the dog and children.

First question is:
  • Is 1.9MB too large a file for one picture?
Is there anyway to keep the quality of the picture and not have it so big?

Some of the pics I take of my tank are 14 Meg. In a .tiff file format tho. Fully uncompressed. With that said, some of my .jpg files are 5 meg.

just so ya know.. :p

The size will depend on the amount of information contained within the file. More info (ie more colours) larger size.

Troy, if you want to post the pics, then yes, 1.9MB is kinda big. For psoting purposes, you can keep most of the detail while reducing the size.

no 1.9 is not to big to keep the picture. you should always take pictures on your highest setting (it is easier to make a picture smaller than it is to make it biger) and then post process it to the size you need.

I take all my pictures at 6 meg and I do keep them at that size also, kinda like keeping the negitives. I thin take them and pic the ones I am going to use and process them for what I want them to be for. ie. if I am posting to the board I usaly knock the size way down and upload the new version, but I do keep all the originals from the camera, even the ones I don't use, in dated files backed up onto a DVD (or 3 of them actualy)

so if you are worried about how many pics you can fit on your card but a big one as they are cheep now.

Steve
