Foam for sump
I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get larger pieces of foam for in my sump. I have a bubble trap but would still like to put some foam in to help out with bubbles as well as to help with filtration. Or if anyone has another idea.

what size?

Something like 12"/12" it is for a 33g sump

LFS/garden center pond filter media usually comes in 12"x12" sheets or sometimes on 36" rolls and you can cut your own. There's a few types of coarseness - you could probably find something close to what you want.
Beyond that, I found some stuff at a foam shop but it was ungodly expensive. I also remember a customer once said he used the filter material from a furnace air filter.. It was a FW application but I suppose that stuff is safe. |

i have seen big bins of foam blocks when you walk into the local big al's here in richmond..

Big Al's stuff seems expensive over here in Alberta. There must be some kind of foam from another application that is safe to use that can be bought cheaply? What about foam scraps from a foam company?

Check out your local upholsterer as well. Usually, they'll sell it to you at just above their cost. Foam shops that sell to retail customers, will usually charge you much more than the upholsterer, (I know, my Dad used to be one  ). Just one more place to check out. Hope that helps.
