Ice Cap Ballasts

would like some info on the 250 watt metal halide IceCap ballast because I noticed that J&L had them on sale and I was considering on buying 2 for my 90 gallon tank. Just wondering if they were good ballasts to run hqi bulbs or what kind of bulbs everyone is using with them?
This is for a DYI project also.

Thx in advance,

Joel

Yep they will run double ended bulbs. It is a very good ballast. I had one for awhile but sold it because I have gone back to 175W IceCap ballasts

I had troubles running a Hamilton 14k bulb with that ballast. The problem was solved by burning in the new Hamilton bulb on a M80 ballast. If the cost difference is not significant I would bag a M80 ballast for 250 DE bulds instead.

If I remember right the XM DE bulb is also a problem bulb with that ballast.

IceCap has a FAQ on their website. It might be worth having a look there. They are also good at answering questions.
