Maps at google
I don't know whether to be amazed or in fact even a little creeped out (not that you didn't know they could do this, but just to see yourself nonetheless)
http://maps.google.com/ Search on, say, your postal code. Click on satellite imagery and then zoom in all the way. The Calgary map is a little old. Near as I can figure it's about 3, maybe 4 years old. It predates the Shawnessy Drive interchange anyhow. It shows my new house as being in a farmer's field. However I scrolled over to my old house, and there it was. I can see my house, my old birch tree, even my shed and my wife's car parked out in front. I scrolled over to my work and one of those little cars parked in the lot must be my car... A little surreal how detailed. Scroll over Fish Creek. Wow. Over to Glenmore Reservoir. You can see boats. You can see the SS. Moyie. |
If you like that then you will love this.
http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/download.html The sat images for Canada are ok. but not as good as the google.. but look at some of the US cities!!! you can see people walking.. very cool :) plus it has some neat features lots of addons as well, even the moon and mars. |
