aptasia question

I just noticed this today, but there are about 500-1000 tiny anemone's in my sump and skimmer. There aren't any in my display tank (that I can see). I've got 2 peppermint shrimp. Does anyone think having these anemone's growing in my sump will be a problem?

I have the same thing, but mine are HUGE ! They are supposed to be excellent filtration.

This assumes that the excess are harvested/removed from the tank.

not really, I have a section in my book here that talks about using them as bio filters in the same way sponges and squirts are, in other words they remove nutrients from the water and don't leach it back in.

But are they really aptasia, or some other type of amenome?

Steve, I have to believe that at some point they'll hit criticl mass and have a die-off, releasing nutrients back into the water. If they continue to absorb nutrients and the colonies grow, "thinning the herd" may be a smart way to manage them.
