Best guess ID
I've had this little hitchiker anemone(?) growing in my reef tank since I started it a year ago. It started out smaller than a dime, and is now about 1.5 inches across. It has stayed in more or less the same location, moving only a few inches from where it was originally. I'm pretty sure its an anemone by the way it snags bits of food and feeds itself. I have searched everywhere trying to figure out what it is and have not been able to ID it. Anyone have a guess as to what it is.

Can you offer a side view pic of it? From that angle it looks like a type of LTA I once had but I'm not sure.

They are very flat. can't get a side shot as there is no elevation to them at all. or at least the one that is in my tank.

At webwetmedia there is a picture of a similar anemone that they claim is a Phymanthus sp.. Here's the URL:
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/anemoneidfaqs.htm It's the second one down I think. Another possibility might be Epicystis crucifer. The best picture I've been able to find is in http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=65412& (Looks like Epicystis crucifer was once Phymanthus crucifer) HTH |
