my live rock!

I bought my vanatu live rock from JL aquatics, (55 pounds for my 46 gal bow)about a week ago. My water is filthy(yellow and smells) ive been doing water changes etc. i heard to add carbon to the water for now to clean it up. some of the life of the rock is dying and the coraline algae is turning white. Should i do anything else. take off dying plants off the rock or vaccum out the detritus off the bottom etc. thanks

Do major water changes. Also, get some sort of tool to chip away any dead or dying sponges (these will be black & stinky). You can use scrubber pads or a screwdriver for the harder stuff but if you don't get all the dead stuff off, it'll mean more water changes & smell.

Good luck. Almost bought some of the Vanuatu LR myself but none were in stock.

merci beaucoup. I will do that soon. the rock is amazing. Chad from JL showed me this piece and it was calling my name. It is about 26 pounds and is really nice. kant wait to do the aquascaping when the curing is done. thanks again

No problem. If you're in the neighbourhood (3 min. from King Ed's & Metrotown) you're welcome to visit if our schedules are compatible. Like to meet local reefers & compare notes & shoot the breeze.

I would siphon out the crud from the bottom when doing the occasional water change. If you don't already have some kind of light (can be NO fluorescent), put light on the tank for the coralline algae.

i never really thought about puttign light but i guess it should be a no brainer to keep some of the good stuff. i will be adding my lights in one to two more days. thanks for the tips
