LFS in Portland & Seattle areas?
I'll be visiting the Seattle & Portland areas in the summer and I was wondering if anyone knows any good LFS to visit. They don't nessecarily have to be Marine only because I am also into planted tanks & dwarf cichlids.
Thanks. Sincerely, Vic [veng68] |
I believe there's an aquarium in Seattle that may be worth visiting.

Blue Sierra in Issaquah has a large store, and based on Seattle bulletin boards is one of the premier LFS's. I visited last November, was very impressed by the selection (dry goods and live goods), but was disappointed in the prices.
Given the competition in the Lower Mainland, our prices are pretty hard to beat. http://www.bluesierraexotics.com/index.htm |
Log into reef frontiers and I`m sure you`ll get the answers and directions you want.

These are my two favorite stores in the Seattle area, both a worthy of the 20min exits from I-5

Well........ I just got back........... I must say I was a bit disappointed with some of the stores I visited.
In Portland I visited Upscale, Hollywood and WetSpot. Upscale had 2 very nice display tanks with the largest Clam I have ever seen....... maybe 1.5 ft long. I think they also had a Clarion Angel but I did not ask since they where quite busy. Hollywood Aquarium was ok but nothing special. Wetspot is a FW only store & if you are into seeing rare stuff........ this is a place to visit. I tried to find Wave but I was not successful. In Seattle I only got a chance to Visit Blue Sierra in Issiqua. Very nice store but some of the prices where  I will have to head back down to checkout the other Seattle stores. Too bad you missed Waves, that would be interesting to see how they are nowadays. I visited Waves in '99. They have since moved and I guess being that it's now 6 years later anything I remember of them is not really relevant anymore, but I think they might be worth a visit still. Aren't they the ones who are somehow associated with the "Portland Blue" torts? Someone in Portland has nice stuff, or maybe Steve Weast has taken it all for that monster tank of his? (He's in Portland is he not? Maybe not, I don't remember..)
Anyhow from what I do remember from LFS touring way back then was that Waves were a bit better than the rest. The others that I saw .. fit basically with your description, nothing really to write home about. Here's a website with the address for Waves: http://www.wavesm.com Here's a listing of other Portland area LFS's: http://www.romperroo.com/FishCorner/...ish_stores.htm |
