Moving long spine?
Any suggestions for moving a long spine urchin from one tank to another? I was thinking.. really large bowl....but I am hardly an innovative thinker o_O

If it to another house use a cooler of some size. I also found putting a plastic fish bag over my hand to slide under it tends not to break the spine's as much as using gloves.

when I bought mine at the lfs, they took a clear tupperware, placed it on top, and gently slid it. The urchin let go and end up in the bowl.

I always just slid some of the spines out of the way enough to get my fingers down close to the body and grabbed a few spines. Pick up real gently and the spines should hold. I'm assuming you mean within the same house, so put in a tub, bowl, etc and transfer over. IME they are very hardy and don't mind moving.

They are really hardy. I have moved mine around in all three tanks.
Pins'n Needles got blamed for some nightly reef renovations, I removed him first to another tank, but the chaos went on. Turned out to be the turbos....when I removed them....it all stopped. Since I put Pin back in, no problems whatsoever. I have a large fish catch cup, I just used that to scoop him up at night. |
