octopus bubble coral?
As requested by another Canreef member.
Here are a few pictures of the coral I was talking to you about. I am sure it must have a different name. I am not sure what it is but in any case that is what the LFS called it. 3 photos: 1 close up, 1 full frontal, 1 under actinics. http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...e_1-1.jpg?5733 http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...e_2-1.jpg?3556 http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...nic_1.jpg?4295 Sorry I thought I could place the actual photo's here and not just the URL. Not sure where I messed up. Hope this is viewable. Greg |

Yep. Thats a green Frogspawn alright.
And a very pretty one at that. |
Thanks for getting the photo's up for me.
Frogspawn huh, thanks for the ID. I thought FS had smaller arms and only pink or whatever at the tips. Well you know it's a great hobby when you are continuously learning something new. Thanks, Greg |
Greg,
The coral your refering to is called torch coral. Both are of the Euphyllia family and which is why many times they get mixed up. |
The Octospawn coral looks like a Frogspawn, except it's not branching, it's hard skeleton grows in a round disc, like a plate coral. These corals are usually more translucent than frogspawns, torchs or hammers & when fully inflated, they can look like long balloons with pink or green spots on them. Much less common though & more expensive.

All those corals cost suppliers/retailers the same amount of money. *grin* |
