Tacky radio contest: person going into shark tank at Big Als

It appears the latest stunt for CJAY92's ridiculous contest is to place themselves in the shark tank when the shark is fed.

Bear in mind there are other animals in the tank as well.

What is your guy's opinion on this.

My initial reaction is one of disgust and disappointment. If nothing else, it seems extremely tacky.

Brodie, Rick, Tom, I can't believe you guys would stoop this low for a tacky publicity stunt. I'm very disappointed with you guys.

Mission #3 - Dale Miskovich will be in a shark tank during shark feeding time tomorrow night at 7pm at Big Al's Aquarium Services on MacLeod Trail. He must remain in the tank until the feeding time is over.
With the pressures facing shark population in general, we don't need to perpetuate harmful stereotypes. Instead we need to promote respect, education, and conservation.

Making a cheap trick out of a ~24" shark hardly qualifies as such. What safeguards are in place to protect the shark from stress? What about the other inhabitants? Even with the safeguards in place to the animals, in the end this is nothing more than a cheap publicity stunt.

well if its like the tank here in richmond i wouldnt worry so much about the sharks as the monster bloody eel!

Im dissapointed in Big Al's for agreeing to this...

Nemain 01-31-2005 08:50 PM

Sick. I can't say much for the radio station, maybe they just dont know any better, but Big Al's should have a little more respect for there sharks/fish.

Missions One and Two are pretty tacky, IMHO, too. BA's is probably hoping the hype will bring more people into their store over the long term. Publicity is publicity is publicity. Remember, business ethics is an oxymoron

Tarolisol 01-31-2005 09:55 PM

business ethics maybe an oxy moron but for a store that should try to promote against animal crualty this is sending the wrong message. I cant see the shark being to happy to have a full grown man trying to swim in his home while hes trying to eat. The stress something like this could cause is just not worth it.

christyf5 01-31-2005 09:57 PM

Ahh, maybe the shark will nip his leg and he'll sue

or better yet, maybe he'll get Mycobacterium marinarum where the sun don't shine and still sue

Quinn 01-31-2005 10:11 PM

Absurd. I'm glad I've never shopped at Big Al's (and never will).

Thats sort of sad! Diving with a 2' shark is going to more likely kill the shark than the diver (maybe his breathing apparatus will fail?). Pepole will go diving and chuming with 10' blue sharks or Bull sharks and they dont get a radio anouncement. Thats going to be one of the first things I do when I learn to dive.
