Gyre with wires showing
Hey all, i have a maxspect gyre and just noticed the black wire that goes into the motor (so yes its under water) seems to have cracked away and i can see red and white wires from inside the casing. I've pulled it out but i'm wondering if anyone has experienced this before? Is it still safe? Thinking maybe the big black wire is more to make it look good insead of the smaller wires that make it run? Anyway just thought i'd put it out there.

You could maybe find some marine wire epoxy commonly used on boats? As long as it doesn’t have any harsh toxins that can leach. The repair would be done outside of the tank, however as long as it doesn’t have any crazy solvents.

I had same thing happen to a Tunze pump, the black outer layer is indeed just for show. The motor likely has an internal seal. However you will want to seal it up again, I didn't and it created a very tiny capillary-like siphon that drew water up the cord and deposited salt water into the controller.

Had that happen to two of mine. Dealing with any type of warranty issue is a joke with Maxspect and J&L, even though it's more of a safety issue. J&L tried to pawn off on the manufacturer saying it was a "grey market" thing. I just bought the newer models instead, from Reef Supplies. Sorry I'm of no help, but seems like a common problem

I also had this happen to mine and resulted in major stray voltage in the tank. Ultimately removed and replaced with Red Sea gyre. Much happier with quality and controller.

I had this happen on my original Gyre and there was a known problem with it and Coralvue provided warranty coverage right away. This was on the original though and I thought they have fixed this issue since then.

First gen XF150/130's were well known to split at the motor block housing. What series is it? For most types you can just buy a replacement motor block if out of warranty.
