What size of bulkhead.
 

ok i'm getting a 2" hole drilled for the tank. What size bulk head can i get with that the reason i'm asking i had a 1" pvc pipe to fit a 1.75 bulkhead so
i 'm hoping that i can get a 1.5" pvc ppipe for the overflow because i'm going to hopefullly get Doug's mak 4 off him to run in the basement 8 ' of head

A 1.5" bulhead needs a 2.5" hole, so you'd need to get the hole bored out if you want to use a 1.5".

Well a 1" bulkhead requires a 1-3/4" hole if you're using sched40 bulkheads so the difference is 3/4" larger hole but if you're using sched80 bulkheads then you need a bigger hole because the wall thickness is larger so if you have a 2" hole I would have to guess that the biggest bulkhead you will be able to fit is a 1-1/4" bulkhead and I'm not sure if those even exist but basically I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not 100% sure and a 2" hole might even be too big for a 1" bulkhead unless we were maybe talking about sched80 bulkheads but those are more money and I'm not 100% certain what clearances you need for those anyhow but I wonder if it might just be better to pick the bulkhead you want to use and then figure out what size hole it needs?

1" bulkhead -> 1 3/4" hole
1.5" bulkhead -> 2.5" hole
2" bulkhead -> 3" hole

A 2in. hole takes a 1 1/2in. bulkhead, which takes 1 1/4in. pipe. Thats the standard that Jayson uses.

I had said my Mak4 currently drives two overflows of that size, so one of the same is pushing it, unless, the higher head cuts it down. Like I also mentioned, you can run a bleeder into your sump though.

um, a 1 1/2" bulkhead should take 1 1/2" pipe, other wise it is a 1 1/4" bulkhead.

Pick the bulkhead first then decide on the hole size ... don't get a hole drilled before having the bulkhead you're going to use. It's a pain to change a hole size after the fact. You can always use bushings to step down the pipe size if it's too big. My advice is go big (1.5") for a drain to the sump.

I know that this isn't what you are asking but I would really recommend having two holes drilled in the same box and use the same method that "Herbie" on RC used - it is the best way to silence both your overflow and the sump. With only one bulkhead you would probably need a durso-type standpipe but your sump would still boil/hot-tub. I guess the sump will be in the basement anyways but it is something to think about.
