New refractometer

I just recieved my new toy from aquariacanada and it looks great. When calibrating this it says to use distilled water. I used my ro/di water with a reading of .02. Is this ok or is this going to give me a wrong reading? Thanks

Do you mean .02 parts per million, or 2 parts per million?

Either way I think the specific gravity of your RO water would be 1.000 or so close to it that you couldn't tell the difference.

There should be a screw that you adjust until it reads 1.00 with distilled water or RO water. It will now be calibrated.

Thanks, ya it`s .02 and I calibrated it to 0 with that water @ .02 It sure is a lot better way to check your salinity. So do I take it that .02 is close enough for a good reading?

will it not give you any more decimal places? I keep my tank at 1.026 and you are getting low at 1.022 so no .02 isn't good enug.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I should have been more clear. The .02 reading is from the ro/di water I was using to calibrate the refractometer with. The scale in the refr. goes up plenty for a reef. Thanks

then no, the 0.2 is not good for RO water, it should read 1.000 on your ro.
