SPS slimming all the time

Hey all

Wanted to hear some thoughts on this... I have had this large stag colony for about 6 months. In the last couple of months it is constantly slimming. Some days its better and other days it's really bad. It does this at night, in the day and when feeding happens or not.

Levels:
Phos: NA - Will test tonight
Calc - 500
Alk - 9.8DKH
S/G - 1.024
Mg - 1600

Lights:
8 bulb ATI that at max is 70% for a few hours.

The coral is half way and has a power head near it. All other corals are fine other than the frags of the same coral.

Thoughts?

I have a couple that are sensitive like this too, and I've not figured out the trigger. I do know that they are super reactive after a water change.

Right? I feel like anything I do to the tank sets it off.. I asked the person who had it before and he said he never had any of these issues.. so odd..

Even more so that any of the frags I made do the same thing.

Is there any tissue loss during this?

ashr 03-08-2017 02:33 AM

When it first was happening yes.. but not really so much now.. it just looks ****ed off all the time haha

DKoKoMan 03-08-2017 02:58 AM

Ha ha that's strange no doubt. Especially if no other ones are affected and water hasn't changed.

Yeah, it's very odd.

I am gonna see what happens when I bring my Calc, Mg and Alk down a bit.

Your current levels don't look too bad! I'm running close to the same.

Yeah, your numbers are pretty wonky. The SG is low (should be 1.026 for reef), but then "big 3" are super high. If NO3 and PO4 are very low or indetectable then the high alk could be irritating the Acro(s) - that combo is known to cause RTN and STN.

Which test kits are you using?

is the powerhead hitting it directly with flow? I'd try moving the powerhead first.
