Good Crab or Bad Crab???
 

I bought a rock today to cycle my tank I dipped it in a pail with high SG to chase out any bristle worms, nothin but a few shrimpy things and a cute little crab I quickly put him in better water. He is about 1/2 inch across tan with tan/brown striped legs, botton of his claw look redish and long antenna's.
Is he good to put in my tank or bad :question: :question:
How bout the little shrimpy pod like things?

Can you post a pic of the crab. Pretty hard to ID them though.

I tried but the pics are too big 400kb and 270kb won't let me d/l them kinda having a heart maybe I'll just dump him in :puppydog:

if that is indeed the kind of crab you have, you should probably get rid of it. unless you want to make a species only tank. as for the bristlworms, i agree with you on that aspect, i dont like those critters either, but some are good to have, once they get too big, they can become a nuisance.

If I may I'd like to refer you to the recent discussion at http://www.canreef.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12148. Remember than Xanthidae is an entire family of crabs. See an excellent discussion at http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-12/rs/. The photo you posted resembles my "Garfield" crab closely. Hopefully you or someone else has a sump where he can live as mine was quite fascinating to watch.

I'm not sure I'd be so quick to say bristleworms are a problem, even when large. Many reefers have had relatively large bristleworms with no reason to believe they were a nuisance. Again though, if they worry you, perhaps relegate them to a sump or refugium.
