Found this guy in the new tank after putting in some new live rock.. man can he clean glass!

Is it some sort of sea hare??

IMO it doesn't look like a sea hare. They are big, like a golf ball to tennis ball size

He is about 2" long, and about 1/2 in across when moving.

I do think it could be a sea hare. I think a major possibility is that it is Petalifera petalifera, which "...is known from records throughout the warm waters of the world."

Heh, and to think, that's just the tip of the iceberg. I remember reading several sources in literature citing sea hares up to 40" long. Not sure how big the one in the picture is, but from my best estimation, 40" would be just a hair (har har) bigger.

Ok, I think I will move him to my main tank then. The new tank just doesnt have enough algae for him to survive =(

Albert yeah ~3' is about maximum size apparently.

Beth I wouldn't stress too much. Certainly getting it into a larger tank would help but mine didn't last long, even in a 150 gal. :frown:

So sad, it really is a facinating creature. I have never hoped for a hair algae problem so much in my life =(

My son already named him Peter, and is sure that he will be bringing chocolates to us this spring :P

Its a small tank bob, 42 I believe, just finally have it all cycled and ready to go. It is to be my daughters gross out tank; she wants it filled with all the creatures that will kill maim and other wise dispose of anything living that will fit in thier mouths. She is my little prodige :biggrin:

Three cheers for reject tanks. I would like to set up my 10 gal as such.

You might try culturing hair algae. Perhaps some crushed coral, lava rock, and completely inadequate lighting, with tap water?
