Is my skimmer way to big?
I am getting back in the hobby and setting up another tank, I have bought a load of stuff of someone who was shutting down. My tank will be a 80 gallon tank and probably about 30 gallon of water in the sump. The skimmer that is in the lot is a coralife cone skimmer 300g. Will this be to big and pull to much out or not run properly due to not a big enough bio load for it?

its hard to say with that skimmer tho, it all depends on the skimmer itself but it is quite possible it could be too big |
What's the inside neck diameter?

I second the not running right because its a Coralife :)

Don't wanna be a downer but coralife sucks better off with a filter sock

I assume it's this one?
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...m?pcatid=27118 It should be fine for your tank. |
I run a Bubble Magus Curve 9 in my 200g total water volume reef. It's rated for 240-400g, so with the "prepare for half the rating" rule of thumb, I feel like it's about right, though sometimes I think it's too much. It does give me wiggle room to add more fish, and there will be more fish!

Was this the one that came with Dragonlady's 180 by any chance? If so, I think its a 300 model. So its rated for 300 gallons...
That being said....its a coralife. Probably perfect size for your tank. If it stays running. |
