survival rate

Does anyone know how long a SPS frag will survive in a bag of water with the temperature around 70-72 f and no light? What could I do to ensure the survival of the frag? I am asking because someone want me to drive some corals over to Edmonton. Unfortunately, I am not driving there directly. It will be at least 48 hours. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

coral survival

This summer...during the heatwave, I drove about a dozen SPS and LPS frags from Calgary to Victoria....total time apx 48hr.
I didn't have to worry to much about heat, but the styrobox works better than you think. And more than 75% lived.
The corals that didn't make it smelled when opened the bag.
So I suggest that the water with the frags be very clean and about 1/2 the bag volume, with one frag per bag. If you can stop by a friendly LFS and get oxygen for the top even better.
Judging by my experience most of your frags should live...Good Luck!
If it is cool maybe you can get a heat pack to help maintain the temp.

If you are realy concerned, you could bring an extra pale of water to do small changes. Time permitting of course.

Thanks John for the input...
It's great to hear from someone that is crazy enough to do such coral runs. I can live with 75%, but I am shooting for 90%. I wonder how they do the shipment from Bali to the LFS. Some suggested shipping coral using wet newspaper  Anyway, I was thinking about changing 25% of the water half way through my trip  . In the mean time, I will shop for heat packs and clean out my styrofoam box...

When I travel with frags, I use a power inverter and run a small cooler as an in-car tank. I have a setup that runs a 50w heater and a small minijet pump. I've kept frags over 48hours @ 100% survival with this.
