Gen X noise
Any way to make a box or... to quiet down a gen x pump that runs a skimmer? The humming noise seems to travel through the house. Problem is that its below the babies room. For some reason most of the noise seems ti be comming out of the sump where the skimmer return is plumbed.

Best solution I can offer you is to plumb the pump with some flex PVC or vinyl tubing.
Placing the pump on some squishy foam is also a necessity when placing an external pump on a wooden floor. |
having the same pump and the same problem......
it's LOUD...... I put foams unter it already.....and I am using PVC and flex tubing combination too.... just can't get rid of the noise...... now I am using a ballvalve to reduce some flow, it's getting quietr. good luck..... |

I have a mak 4 gen-x and its really quit, I also did screw it to a block of wood on a c ement floor, and am running flex hose.

I have an Iwaki pump on my closed loop that is rather noisy too. I found that when I increased the size of the return line from 3/4" to 1", the pump did not have to work as hard and thus runs quieter.

I have both a Mak4 and Iwaki 55RLT, they are both loud and have different tone each. If you remove the fans, they are very quiet, but you will still need an extrenal fan to keep them cool. I have to clean the dust off mine every few months, and they get quieter again.
