Snail ID
I have noticed a lot of eggs all over the glass lately. Today I noticed two different kinds of very tiny snails.
This one almost looks like a sundail snail.... But i'm not sure how to clarify. He was found nowhere near any zoas. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pscxvnzeqg.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pskpkum0xg.jpg Also found a few of these guys. They have what looks to be a tube in the front. I thought they may be baby nassarius, but after some research, they are extremely rare to breed in an artificial habitat. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psnhtbyl7c.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps6luqf1ov.jpg Anything I need to worry about?? |
First one definitely looks like a sundial snail. Just to be safe, catch out all those ones and get rid of them IMO.

The first one is a Collonista Snail - harmless. The second with the tube as the front that you describe sounds like it may be a type of Whelk - which is usually not good.
Here is a Sundial snail: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/MolluscPI...IX/Sundial.jpg http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2003...m/Heliacus.jpg |
+1 to Collonista snail. I've always had bunch in my tanks that come out at night. Sundial snails have a more textured shell.
