Rio Seio vs. Tunze Stream?

Have seen these new high-flow, low-watt Rio "stream-type" powerheads mentioned a few times lately. Those of you on RC a lot - what's the buzz on these? They look too good to be true... even though they're not close to the real Streams, their specs are pretty impressive.

Here's a Review.

They are in last month's specials at SWC as well, so I'm curious about them.

That's an excellent review. I would like to try a couple right now.

the only draw back I see is that they will be over 110 bucks by the time you figure in shipping and such. for 190 you get a tunze with twice the flow. now if they could make a 1600 gph version for less than 100.00 then we would be talking.

I was looking at the 65.99 for the 620 GPH unit - running at about the same power consumption as my MJ 900...

Could replace some powerheads, and get a better flow pattern, maybe save some electricity. Maybe even save some money, if J&L carries them...

(no offense Jayson.)

I emailed Jayson on Sept 1, which is the day after the sale ended to see if he would send me one at the sale price. I have as yet to receive an answer. We can hope.

Due to the big demand for these pumps and the recent emails asking for them we are going to honor the price of august for 1 more week. AJ no offence taken if you want to save $ somewhere else you are more than welcome to do so. We have them in stock and ready to ship.

Very cool, Jay.

Can you give any input as to their performance?

Also, what will the price be after the special?

Jayson 09-02-2004 08:49 PM

I have run them for aprox 1 month. they are the best bang for the buck that I have seen. they look to be well made better than previous pumps. They do flow alot of water for a small pump. You will just have to try one to see the difference over a powerhead.

How come they can't be hooked up to a timer or a wavemaker?

Ok, I could maybe understand that a wavemaker might be too many on/off cycles and that's hard on a motor, but why not a timer? I.e., 6 hours on 6 hours off or something, that doesn't sound too harsh to me ... what am I overlooking?

Jay,

Looking at the pictures, it appears as thought the nozzle is capable of swivelling back/forth on a certain degree. Is this true or just my wishful thinking?
