How to increase Mg by 1000ppm
Tested my 90g reef tonight and Mg in tank 360ppm. Freshly made salt water was 300 ppm. Salt obviously low in Mg. Looking for advice on how to safely but quickly raise the mg in my tank. Epson salt sounds like the quickest and easiest but there has to be a catch...

I would think that kit is bunk , have you verified it as accurate?

I find it hard to believe any salt brand would be below 1000 ish I've had Instant Ocean come in at 1170, and as high as 1400 Get your water checked by the LFS, or use another kit And just a simple reminder for us all ... If something is out of whack, don't start adjusting things, question the test methods  Too often I've caught myself thinking about adjusting stuff .... bad reefer, baaaad |
Agreed probably bad kit.
One other thing, are you mixing the salt properly to the correct salinity. |
I concur, most likely a bad kit or erroneous testing method.

I agree with The Guy who agrees with Scythanith who agrees with coolhandgoose who agrees with gregzz4 who agrees with reefwars.
Measure out some Epsom salts into some R/O water and measure the concentration with your test kit. According to the fetilator, 2 teaspoonss of epsom salts in 1 litre of water should give you 1000 ppm Mg. Not exact but enough to see if you are in the ballpark. |
^^ totally agree
