Stand pics?
Anyone want to do a thread on pictures of stands? I need inspiration :)

Here are some of the one I built for my reef.

I built the same panel doors I put on the canopy. It is fully wrapped. I'll see if I can track something down. |
Beautiful set, but way beyond my skills :)
I'm thinking of going a more modern gloss black setup. Less detail to mess up -lol |
Wow what a great looking stand, we got some real woodworking guru's in our community!

2x4 stand construction. Interlocking joints, all glued and screwed. Maybe a bit heavy, but...
Skinned in Maple, but could have been painted black with simpler woodworking if you prefer that look. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Z...124_162656.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-T...124_162734.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-r...124_162717.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-v...126_210633.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-s...224_073738.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-D...229_192417.jpg |

It's light, does not rust and very modular. If ever you upgrade or downgrade your tank, you just need to swap out a few beam. The same cannot be said about welded metal stands. |

Wood working tools and skills are limited, so it's going to have to be basic. The frame part is easy enough, it's the finishing that throws me. My 4 yo current stand still isn't finished. |

When I look at the prices of the standard wood tanks stands you can buy at the LFS, it shocks me. I could build a stand out of extruded aluminum for roughly the same price. It does require some DIY skills and tools but well with the effort IMO. Good luck with your search! |
It's not as complicated as it looks. While it's nice to have a table saw, you could easily build the 2x4 frame using a miter saw. Sides and front including the doors can be made out of plywood, slap on a couple of coats of flat black paint and you're done. The finished product will be way stronger than a store bought stand.
BTW for a stand that's 30" front to back it's nice to make the sides removable so sump maintenance is a bit easier. |
