Starfish

Picked up a few starfish the other day. They always seem to be at the top of the tank? Is there a reason? http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/07/esu8a2ub.jpg

starfish

the one on the left looks like a sand sifting star.do you have a sand bed.most likely they are eating algae or diadoms near the top of the tank

hungry?

The one by the heater looks like a Chocolate Chip Seastar. They are carnivorous to sessile inverts and snails so be careful.

Sand Sifting Seastars are also carnivorous to creatures within the sandbed.

Make sure your salinity is 1.026 as they do best at natural seawater salinity. Check it with a refractometer and not a swing arm hydrometer.

Cheers,
Tim

Not sure 100%, but I wouldn't have one in anything but a fish only tank.
