Question about shipping frags
Can anyone advise me about shipping frags.
1. How long can corals and coral frags survive in shipping? Is 24 hours the longest or could they last 2 or 3 days? 2. How crucial is it to maintain a good temperature during shipping, even with insulation the temperature would drop during shipping. 3. How do people usually ship frags, Canada Post or one of the courier services? |
Anyone?

Re: Question about shipping frags
I have never shipped frags, but have had them shipped to me. Had them shipped by overnight courier in a well insulated box with that peanut stuff for increased insulation. I wouldn't ever ship during the heat of summer or cold of winter, preferring spring and fall. HTH.

Thanks Beverly.

What Bev said. I would also use an elastic to attach the coral to a piece of styrofoam and float it upside down. I used small heat packs which you can buy at shippers supply and I would probably trust them during the winter to perhaps -15 or so, given what they're actually made for, but during the summer I can't even begin to predict the temperature of a cargo hold so I don't know what to say. I would definitely go for spring or fall though. Triple bag, use lots of peanuts. I used Fedex and it went off like a charm. I would aim for 24 hours or less. The one I shipped took about 20 hours.

like the idea of shipping frags attatched to styrofoam. If it is a shorter distance greyhound has a next bus out policy. For instance I had some shipped from the fraser valley and met the bus in westbank total time in transit less than 5 hours.
