can Aptasia/ polyps fly?
 

ok I saw this in my tank so i grabed a pic, first i am not sure if it is aptasia or another type of polyp i have that spreads good, buy i saw it swimming by pummping it tenticles. it swam to a high up place on the tank then anchored on the pipe. I know it was "swimming" as it was moving against the current!

if it is one of the Polyps that I have that seams to spread all over (in my main tank, the 25 gal tank , the sump and in the skimmer, this would explain how it is getting around to thase places.

Doesn't look like aiptasia to me, though I've never had this little delight. Do a search on majano(sp?) anemones on either www.thereeftank.com or www.reefcentral.com . I don't think you'll want either more than the eyether [img]smile.gif[/img] .

Well I posted on RC to Dr. Ron and this is what he had to say

" Hi Steve,

Your polyp may be an Anemonia majano, a very definite pest. However, the tentacle structure is not "quite" right (the pests generally have a small bulb at the tentacle tip). It may simply be a small benign anemone. If it was in my tank, I would watch and monitor it. IF it started to reproduce and show up all over the tank, I would probably try to eradicate it.

The "swimmer" does look like Aiptasia, sorry to say.

So it looks like I will be stopping at Canuck rubber to pic up some HCL and have a Polyp nuking party tonight.. everyone is invited but it is a BYON party (BYON = Bring your own needle :D )

Yeah, I only looked at one picture, the other does look like aiptasia. Good luck with it Steve, they're nasty little buggers. Might try some peppermints.

I have 3 pepermint shrimps in there now Troy, so I think I am going to concentrate on the "other" ones first and hope the pepermint shrimps will keep the Aptasia under control.. but.. if I am beside one while I am nukin it might get shot up also :D :D

Hey Steve, my roomie had a major aptassia colony almost wipe out everything until the day when he mixed heated salt water and buffex togehter. Once he had a really hot mix of this high concentration he simply injected it into the aptassia and "boom" there were gone, a few that he missed came back but once he pierced the top half of the base these nasty things, that's when they started to really die off. I know this method works and is fairly safe as long as the buffex does not overdose the system.
