Protein skimmer?
Okay let me start buy saying i have done lots and lots of reading about skimmers and now i am no further ahead . I would like an opinion about a few different skimmers . I have a 150 gallon DT and a 100 gallon sump And am hoping to have a reef in the future . My top dollar is 400.00 right now i have it down to 4 skimmers 1- Bubble Magus Curve 9
2- AquaMaxx ConeS CO-3 3- CAD Lights 2nd Generation Conic Protein skimmers (TIA-1350) 4- Vertex Omega 150 Protein Skimmer Any help is appreciated. |
i have a vertex 150 and love it but I think your volume is too much for it, try and find skimmer rated for atleast 200gallons for your setup
|
Yes i think it is to small as well but a store told me it would work good for it. And this is why i am asking for opinions .

Im using an aquamaxx cs1 and am very impressed with it. I really like the design they used. At first the bubble plate.looked weird but the extra cones definately add an extra kick in its performance versus a regular bubble plate I had on my swc.

Try to go for something rated for about 2x or so more volume than your tank. U will need it if u wanna have a full blown healthy reef in the future. Don't listen to stores. See if u can find a high end used skimmer on here km sure u will get a killer deal.

Agree! I see tons of really good protien skimmers sell on here for cheap :D

The Vertex Omega 150 won't even be close to big enough and the Cad Lights 1350 is a bit small too. The Aqua Maxx I'm not familiar with, but it appears on print to be able to handle the job. The Bubble Magus I think would be a good choice - I know several people running them who quite like them, and from what I've seen they are performing well. They seem to be reliable too.
Curve 9 review (does complain about noise though): http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=88466 |
I think i am leaning towards the curve 9 . Everything i read is that it is a good bang for the buck . As for used i live in a small town and miss all the good deals.
|
Go for the curve. Myself and alot of local people really like the BM skimmers
|
Thanks for the help putting my mind to ease about my decision to go with the Curve 9.
