Easter Island (Rapa Nui) Dive Pictures
Hey!
I'm slowly getting back into the hobby after a good 5 years off. During that time i've been on some awesome dive trips......here are a few select shots from my recent trip to Easter Island. This trip was the first time using my SLR camera. I've still got a lot to learn about how to take the best shots (and even what lenses I need to use!), but I think I did alright, eh? posing with a fake Moai (was sunk here for a scene in the movie "Rapa Nui") http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7355/9...1e8cae66_b.jpg was told this is an anchor from an old Spanish ghaleon http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7435/9...c157072c_b.jpg lots of the same coral (porites) http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3803/9...ac4725cb_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7439/9...cd182189_b.jpg banana wrasse http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7340/9...e15db592_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7317/9...44bc9a7f_b.jpg trevally photobombing my shot http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5510/9...b7f7cfe0_b.jpg Easter Island butterflyfish feeding on an urchin http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2889/9...be6d4807_b.jpg 1000+ year-old porites lobata colony http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3751/9...1960c6b5_b.jpg teardrop butterflyfish http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5518/9...9cd07634_b.jpg the money shot - about $10000-$15000 or more dollars worth of rare fish here: Hotamatua pygmy angels and femininus Wrasses. I had to crop the heck out of my image to get this (shooting RAW and high megapixels ftw!) http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3815/9...abe07eba_b.jpg me next to a porites colony http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2892/9...4975e357_b.jpg yellow pocillopora colony...one of only TWO colonies I saw on my dives (the other was a baby blue colour). Easter Island has LOTs of coral, but very, very low coral species diversity http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2841/9...79e5cd3d_b.jpg Easter Island is located in some of the bluest waters (nutrient-poor) on the planet....makes for excellent visibility! http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3793/9...ef5e9bd5_b.jpg many more pics on my Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/5835305...7634752882333/ z |

about the pics..thanks for the comments!! :D I used an ultra-wide Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 for most of the shots, and gave my best shot at using my Nikkor 105mm f2.8 macro . It's amazing how deficient that lens is underwater, but how amazing it is on land! Virtually all of the underwater shots I took with it were not up to snuff.... for my next trip i'm going with a lower focal length macro...most likely the 60mm f2.8 AFS and of course my strobe conked out halfway through my dives....grrr.....im going to upgrade the battery for the next trip! z |
awesome shots hard to believe that's your first go with an DSLR!
and wow that banana wrasse is hands down the nicest supermale i've ever seen. |
